“In a recent meeting we saw something we hadn’t seen in a long time–people’s demeanors have changed. Many were smiling instead of feeling like the world is on their shoulders. And there is more calm and peace in people. Now instead of just putting out fires, we are able to find ways to fix things.

Overview

Like many other businesses, CSS was negatively impacted by COVID.

Nina had begun the transition toward retirement and was in the process of passing the baton to her daughter, Sheena, when the world shut down.

Stepping into the role as Executive Director, Sheena strived to maintain the family culture that was created over the years.

However, the pandemic took a large toll on team morale, retention, and recruitment. That’s when they approached us.

Monthly Funds Saved & Reallocated

We desired to have a culture where our staff felt heard and seen and not just for their title, but as a contributing member of the team. But after Covid many things were rushed, we were dealing with staffing issues, and most of the time people were stuck in crisis-mode. We found ourselves needing constructive ways to create a better culture among employees. That’s when we were introduced to Benu Creative.

Gabriel came in and got to know us, our team, and our specific needs. He spoke directly with us and our team and conducted surveys to really understand what the true issues were so we could address them. He provided data on our recruitment that showed where our efforts were best being utilized and where we were wasting time and money.

He provided the framework to help us identify the strengths and weaknesses of each member on our team and coached us on how to effectively support them to bring out their potential. This helped us identify those that we could build into leaders and how to support them to thrive in their particular role. It was a completely different way of thinking but it helped challenge us to really look at the issues and not shy away from them.

We really liked how he came to our leadership meetings, demonstrated how to implement and incorporate our values, and coached us on ways we could fold them into our day-to-day decisions. It helped everyone to see how they fit into the larger culture because it showed them how the things they were already doing purposefully contribute to our mission–even if it’s something as seemingly small as taking an individual to buy groceries.

We’ve seen a lot of big changes working with Benu. One big blessing is that we have more staff stability. From the recruitment data Gabriel provided we were able to reallocate nearly $1,000 per month toward better, more effective means. Seven openings have now shrunk down to one or two. Our goal was one employee per month and we’ve met that.

We are able to see the potential in people and support them in specific ways to grow them into better leaders. In a recent meeting we saw something we hadn’t seen in a long time–people’s demeanors have changed. Many were smiling instead of feeling like the world is on their shoulders. And there is more calm and peace in people. When asked questions about goals and concerns people are more willing to open up. They are allowing themselves to be vulnerable and work toward goals, even amidst disagreements.

Most people are taking more initiative. They are no longer reactive, but more proactive. There seems to be more clarity in the process of leading and executing plans and people can identify certain issues more easily. Now instead of just putting out fires, we are able to find ways to fix things.
